I just got an 8 GB iPod in the mail from a survey I filled out about 5 months ago. I didn't think I'd actually get one. I am pretty excited for all the songs I could store on it. It actually only the 4th iPod I've ever seen in real life, but it is probably better I sell it to help me run at the Kentucky Derby. And I might just save myself some pain of music loss in the future.

I lost access to a backup drive for about 2 years and recently got into it and found wonderful little nuggets.

Gunch? Is that a pinball onomatopoeia?

I was already experiencing those "I've got too much stuff here. I really need to throw something out. But I can't bring myself to part with any of it." thoughts that women have about their wardrobe.

As my mother recently said to my aunt about wardrobes, a fresh start isn't all that bad; it's actually quite liberating. Only getting things as I crave them is a good way to narrow it down to the stuff I really care about.

You have my sympathy.

Thirty-five years ago, when I was a pinball champ, I learned the best time to analyze a loss is directly after experiencing the loss (didn't gunch the right side hard enough, etc.). In this case, perhaps you should, in the future, store a copy of your music library on your parents' iMac.
