CIMG3198.JPGHere in Spain, people eat cow tongues. It’s actually quite delicious. The texture of the meat is unlike any other. My parents tried some when they were here last year.

It really is a very normal food here, but no matter how normal it gets, it still strikes me as, “Wow, that’s really a tongue!” when I see the product you buy in the grocery store or butcher. I figured it was worth a few photos and some silly poses for a blog entry. A lot of my readers have probably never considered this food. After cooking, it’s sliced into thin cross sections and served in a thick puréed sauce of peppers, tomatoes, leeks, and carrots.

I feel so inadequate…

So let’s have some funny tongue jokes in the comments. Here, I’ll start…

  1. In Spain, the food tastes you!
  2. This dish tastes both good and well!

    3. If you can’t lick ‘em, join ‘em.
    4. Tongue served in a thick pur̩ed sauce with linen napkins Рgood taste cubed.

    #4 is excellent!

Way to work in the other meaning of “taste”.

    1) I’d state my (funny) thoughts, but then we’d all get in trouble…. me for stating them, and you for publishing them…. So let’s just say I posted a funny thought here and we all stay out of trouble, OK? (yes, a novel idea… I know…)

    2) I have heard for quite some time that tongue is good, and have retrieved same from the last few animals I’ve harvested (a euphemism for ‘shot dead, and packaged for human consumption’), including deer, moose, and elk. But, alas, when confronted with the “What’s for dinner” question when perusing my freezer, tongue never comes to the forefront and I end up throwing it away….

Bad me…. Maybe erik you could post a good recipe and I’ll be inspired to try a moose or caribou tongue from this coming fall’s hunt?

Ah, many thanks for giving me a good idea! One of my old apartment complexes stole my deposit a few years back, and these look perfect for their rent check mail slot. These slimy tongues would be quite the statement for them to find in the morning, on their office floor. i checked my local grocery store, and they’re practically giving these things away, they’re so cheap… 20 bucks could buy maybe 35 of them!

I really want to eat some tongue right now. Maybe with some horse semen.
