Due to the nature of things, and having both words on every page, I’m ruling the google search for: colindres spain. The result is that anyone in the English speaking world that has a reason to look for information about Colindres (and there aren’t many people like that) will find me. Like that Australian guy a couple of months ago. The latest person to find me, and leave a nice comment, is Heather.

On Sunday, we went to Etxe Aundi, the restaurant that will be hosting our wedding celebration, to sample the food and decide on a final wedding menu. It was a very difficult task, as all the food was absolutely delicious. Most restaurants in Spain will invite the bride, groom, and their parents to a six-person tester meal like this. Since my parents were unable to attend, the bride’s sister and aunt attended to provide their input.

There is only one brand of peanut butter I’ve been able to find in Spain. It comes in both crujiente and suave. The label on the plastic jar is an attempt to characterize Americans, so I have to share it with you.

Today marks the anniversary of the day I met my future wife. Eight years ago, or approximately enable javascript to see the counting ago. So ours will be a story of 2,954 days between meeting and marriage. Longer than the average couple, I’m pretty sure. At least we got in before the 3,000 mark. Whew!

This past weekend there were annual festivals in two local towns, Santoña and Ampuero. The festival in Ampuero included encierros (running of the bulls) on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning. On Saturday morning, we got up and got dressed with the intent of going to see the encierro in Ampuero, but we ended up leaving late, and when we realized that we had to get gas before going, we aborted the mission and decided to go on Sunday.

I was just flipping randomly through some of our upper cable channels and came across a blast from the past. We get this “ESPN Classic Sports” channel (the only ESPN channel we get) that shows old games from years ago. I can barely muster the interest to watch live sports, so you can imagine how useful this channel is to me.
Imagine my surprise to see a UNC vs. Duke ACC game from 1995! What’s funny is that there’s only a small window from 1995 to about 2000 where I followed ACC basketball enough to recognize any players’ names. I knew all these guys! (more…)

Last Sunday, we went to an exhibition entitled Leonardo’s Machines. It was a really clever idea of a project for a woodworking school. They recreated some simple (and some not-so-simple) machines from drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci, put them in an old fort (that’s where their school is) and charged people a couple euros to get in.

I took advantage of the crystal clear blue skies today to take some panorama shots of Laredo. I kind of surprised myself by finding such a great vantage point.
