More Beer and More Money

The photo I posted here yesterday reminded me of another “still life” shot I took recently, so I figured I’d post it here too. Something about the juxtaposition of a $5 bill, an expensive laptop, and a can of cheap beer seems oddly artistic.

Now that is an expensive coaster!

	Expensive Coaster
	The other day I had a beer in hand and was looking around for a coaster to set it on. I couldn’t find one, so I had to make do with the paper I had just lying around the house. I’m accepting donations to buy me a coaster….or at least some better beer.

Clearly because there wasn’t any more room on the table! Duh!

The actual answer is that I had taken my laptop out onto the golf hole behind our condo to enter scores in a golf skills challenge into a spreadsheet. My laptop’s battery was kaput, though, and I didn’t end up using it at all.

The money was part of an entry fee for the competition, and, well, how could I not have a beer with me?

George Catlin, Prairie Meadows Burning, 1832

From the Smithsonian American Art Museum:

George Catlin painted ominous, swirling clouds of black smoke that loom out of the distance and drive the Indians before them. The artist was an eyewitness to such terrifying events, and described the fire’s “thunder rumbling as it goes.” But he also wrote that prairie fires made for “some of the most beautiful scenes that are to be witnessed in this country, and also some of the most sublime.”
