Amazing coincidence; up to now, I've had no problems with my 40D and grip. I'd sure be interested in learning what Canon ultimately diagnosed. I have a feeling I'll be on the phone - and on my way to a FedEx office - on Friday. Grrr. I don't remember whether it was a 99 or not, but it said something about a problem with the automatic sensor cleaning thing it does every time you turn it on. So, of course, I turned it off and on again, and haven't had any problems since. I kept all my receipts and stuff, and filled out an online warranty form when I got back from buying it.
