Anyone who has ever read The Indian in the Cupboard
or The Borrowers
has imagined what it would be like to be small enough to fit on someone’s hand, and also what it would be like to have a pocket-sized human friend. I’ve decided to do a couple “Mini Me” images to hone my Photoshop skills and because altering reality in Photoshop is so darn fun.
The perfectionist in me is dissatisfied with the reflections around the edges of the cutout. At first I had just a white background, then I tried a gradient background, but it still wasn’t right. Then I had the idea to go with a blurry “somewhere inside the house” background, which didn’t look right until I threw one of those amateur photography flash shadows on it….which then required that Mini Me cast a shadow on the big hand, etc. In the end, I’m pretty pleased with the result.
Hi there!
Cropped close-up.
Suggestions for other scenes are welcome.

Shifting and Tilting

| I’ve trained my eye to spot photos that can be easily tilt-shifted. A few of them I found by searching for tags like “birdseye” on Flickr. To see the original photos, click on a photo and then follow the link to the original. Behold… Mini Arrowhead Stadium. Mini Bull Pen. Despite the scale of the [...] |
