Treto Train StationA couple days ago the weather was nice, so I decided to walk across the iron bridge into the neighboring town of Treto. Partly because I don’t think I’ve ever crossed the bridge on foot and partly because I was curious about the nearest train station. The bridge is a well-known landmark, designed by some French guy named Eiffel. It was a very pleasant walk.

Colindres Harbor
First we passed Colindres’ new marina, which just opened last year.

Ria Asón at low tide
This is the Rio Asón on its way to the sea. It’s the water the bridge is over.

Ria Asón at low tide
Looking back south towards the larger, more modern bridge that the main motorway goes over. All that marshy stuff over on the left is covered at high tide.

Crossing the bridge.

Treto Train Station
A miniature model of the Treto train station. Possibly worth viewing large.

El Camino de la Costa
A tiled information board suggests that going through here is a possible way to do the Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. I’ve never heard of a railway pilgrimage before.

Treto Train Station
That pretty much sums it up.

Railroad ties

Train Tracks
Looking towards Bilbao.

Sleeping in the sunshine
The journey across the bridge was too much for my traveling companion.

Boat on the Ria Asón
A boat on the way back home over the bridge.

I hope you enjoyed our little walk. We sure did.

Hi Erik, I like checking out your website, especially for the weather and places you have been to. Taking the train to Santander is a very pretty journey too. We have an apartment in Laredo and lived in the area for a good few years when our kiddies were small. We are out for easter so just checked your webcam, not looking too bright is it. Might see you at Santona market one Saturday.
