American in Spain

A couple days ago the weather was nice, so I decided to walk across the iron bridge into the neighboring town of Treto. Partly because I don’t think I’ve ever crossed the bridge on foot and partly because I was curious about the nearest train station. The bridge is a well-known landmark, designed by some French guy named Eiffel. It was a very pleasant walk.


First we passed Colindres’ new marina, which just opened last year.

This is the Rio Asón on its way to the sea. It’s the water the bridge is over.

Looking back south towards the larger, more modern bridge that the main motorway goes over. All that marshy stuff over on the left is covered at high tide.

A tiled information board suggests that going through here is a possible way to do the Camino de Santiago, the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. I’ve never heard of a railway pilgrimage before.

That pretty much sums it up.
