It’s been just over a year since my last experiments with taking off-camera flash shots of my daughter. All yesterday she was reminding me, both in looks and behavior, of the title character of that 1993 Dennis the Menace movie, so I decided to take some photos of her during her playtime before bed. Recently, when my flash is on my camera, I can’t get her to look at anything besides the flash, so in all of my photos of her, she’s looking just above the camera. This problem is what gave me the idea to try my off-camera flash transmitter to see if I could capture her looking more at the camera or at least not looking almost into the camera.

Nora the Menace.

Looking at camera flash.

Nuclear fission achieved! Let’s dial that shutter speed down a little, shall we?

Ooh! What’s in here?

Forehead illumination.

Okay, so my off-camera flash talents are still in the novice experimental stage, but it’s awfully fun.

A couple months ago I eBay’d a wireless flash trigger mechanism so that I could take my photography to the next level: off-camera flash. Of course I soon realized that using an off-camera flash is actually really, really hard, at least for someone like myself who still has to look up the term f-stop occasionally. [...]

Walking With A Camera

These are just some photos of stuff that caught my eye during an evening walk around Colindres last Sunday. Carrying a camera with you makes you see the world a little differently. This thing creeped me out a little, just imagining this little goblin critter scurrying around inside the car while you’re trying to drive, [...]

ATTENTION: I now recommend that you use the Javascript Flickr Badge widget instead. I love the Flickr Flash Badges, but the content of the iframe that you have to put on your page is not valid XHTML. That just won’t do. So I decided to take matters into my own hands… While I was investigating [...]
