Virtual Photography

March 23, 2007

For some reason, I started playing around with Google Earth this morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had upgraded the quality of images of Colindres and the surrounding area. But what really blew my mind was that they had accurate topographical data as well! Here, I've recreated the picture that I took that is at the top of this blog. I did it by:

  1. Finding my house in Colindres
  2. Zooming all the way down to the ground
  3. Turning the perspective so that I was looking at the horizon
  4. Spinning around until I identified the familiar pointy shape of the nearby mountain that we climbed
  5. Carefully changing my altitude and "flying" to the peak of the mountain
  6. Spinning back around to look at Colindres

Compare this to the picture at the top of this blog.

Pretty crazy, huh? For those of you that have Google Earth, you can go to this location by downloading and opening colindres-3d.kml.
