One of the many, many varieties of candy available here is a little chewy piece of candy called a meón. The word “meón” literally means “pisser”, or to be slightly less vulgar, “one who urinates”. The shape of the candy has always struck me as humorously vulgar, which is the intent, I think.

The white debris you see on him are little grains of sugar from being in a bag with other candy.

The shape is modeled after the Manneken Pis statue in Brussels:

This is kind of a scary picture taken by a tourist in a Belgian souvenir shop:

Pisser Army

Can you imagine a product with such emphasis on genitalia being marketed to children in the United States? Imagine the social uproar!

  • Resistance is futile we will be pissed on.

  • I’d rather be pissed off.

  • …but how do they taste?!

  • It’s just sugar. Texture-wise, it’s a little tougher and chewier than a gummy bear, but it’s that general kind of material.

They’re actually quite good. Takes a bit of gnawing first, but the flavours are good. My roommate brought some back for me from home.
