Myrtle Beach Classic 2009

February 12, 2009
Arnold and the Boys

This year, I wasn't feeling very much like taking photographs at the annual February golf tournament that I attend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I was recovering from a stomach virus that struck me down the day before we left for the beach. As a result, I only took 43 photos and made three videos. Myrtle Beach Classic 2009 Write-Up

Luckily, my father, as usual, has written up a wonderful document about the event as seen through his eyes. Click on the image above to download the 5.3 MB PDF of his write-up. It's 13 pages, but there's a big photo on every page.

Below is a Flickr slideshow of my photos taken during the event. If you prefer to view the thumbnails, you can peruse the Flickr set here. Or you may view the slideshow full screen.

One of the courses we played, Waterway Hills, was along the Intracoastal Waterway, the canal that runs the full length of the eastern seaboard. The problem they faced when building the course was that they did not have room for parking or a way to get cars across the waterway to the course. So they devised a system of gondolas to carry golfers from their cars to the course. Check out this video.

This video is also available on YouTube, Metacafe, Google, Break, DailyMotion, Blip.tv, Veoh, Imeem, Stupid Videos, Sclipo and Viddler.

A second video is the result of standing safely, but coldly, on the balcony of our hotel while two completely insane members of our group, Steve and Al, ran into the frigid Atlantic Ocean on Saturday February 7, 2009.

The final video is some footage from the awards ceremony, and will probably only be interesting to those that attended the event and are still suffering from alcohol-induced amnesia.

But wait! There's a BONUS VIDEO!!! Taken as one of those "didn't realize the camera was in video mode" accidents, this one second video of participant Al Green playing the bongo drums, with a little looping and effects, makes a great example of a live bobblehead doll. Rock on, Al!

I had a great time again this year. I can't wait for next time!
